I never actually get sick, apart from a stomach virus, I never catch a cold and the last time I had the flu was over 20 years ago.

This is also due to the fact that I have my blood tested thoroughly every 18 months or so to see whether I am lacking important trace elements and micronutrients.

This time, the examination was two years ago and a deficiency had developed. The doctor explained to me: "In terms of micronutrients, there is a deficiency in zinc, selenium and vitamin D. Potassium and copper are also slightly reduced. Potassium and copper are also slightly deficient.

Quite logically, a lack of vitamin D, zinc and selenium leads to a weakening of the immune system.

So it's no wonder that I've been hit by it. And it's clear that I'm now replenishing my stores by adapting my diet and taking food supplements.

I was surprised by the low vitamin D value, as I spend a lot of time outdoors. But that's probably not enough in our latitudes.

Prevention against corona - medical

Of course, I asked the doctor what she would recommend to the risk groups to make the body as resistant as possible to corona. The additions in brackets are mine.

Your tips

Vaccination against influenza, even if, according to reports, it is probably only really effective in a few cases.

Vaccination against pneumococci, i.e. the germs that cause pneumonia (I found this very logical)

Infusion: A special mixture of amino acids, e.g. L-carnitine, L-lysine, etc. (She said that patients with a weak immune system who receive this infusion in autumn get through the winter infection-free. You can also get the immune-boosting amino acids as a dietary supplement, but the dose is naturally lower).

Vitamin C high dose

High doses of vitamin D. (A low vitamin D level also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Studies say that a healthy person can easily take 4000 units. It is usually recommended to take vitamin D plus Vikmanin K2, as this leads to better storage in the bones).

Unimaginative prevention against corona

Fear paralyses the imagination.

The nicest thing I can say about the current policy is that it is unimaginative and reinforces fears. There's talk of daily deaths in the crowd of an aeroplane crash.

Such statements do not take into account that many of the "corona deaths" do not die from corona, but with it. But above all, such statements reinforce fear, especially among the 30% population, which already suffers from a fear of flying. This makes me angry because I think it is an irresponsible way of playing on the emotions of people who are already frightened.

As a coach, I often work with clients who are struggling with anxiety.

The natural reaction to fear is to retreat into the safety zone. I protect myself from the danger - reduce contact, put on the mask and go through.

I sometimes ask myself whether MASK is an abbreviation for:

Mache

aall

stur -

kone

Einitiative).

Please don't get me wrong. I cannot judge whether the danger posed by the virus is actually as great for most people as the media and politicians would have us believe.

If this is the case, I have nothing against masks and contact restrictions - as long as they do some good, which I can't really judge - even if I suffer as a result. Not so much myself, but especially when I think about the people whose often painstakingly built-up existence is destroyed as a result. I just think the current policy is rather unimaginative.

Imaginative prevention against corona

As a coach, I know that when real or perceived danger threatens, you can retreat, close yourself off and wall yourself in, or you can become stronger.

If a person can do something themselves to counter a danger, they become stronger inside. They feel more confident and secure and this in turn has a positive effect on the immune system.

That's why I'm very much in favour of actively doing things to strengthen body and soul.

Here are a few tips

Check facts

This is not so easy in the multitude of opinions. A few of the facts that I find helpful:

Infected does not mean sick. Asymptomatically infected people, i.e. people who carry the virus but do not show any symptoms of the disease, have a higher risk of infection after a Study from Wuhan no risk of infecting others.

The risk of dying from corona is relatively low. Over 900,000 people died in Germany in 2019. So far, around 15,000 people in Germany have died from or with coronavirus. Many of these people had pre-existing conditions and the majority had already died in the Retirement age. Every death is to be mourned. But there is also perspective if you put the figures into perspective.

Pay attention to language

Language can reinforce or weaken fear, depending on how it is used. As an author who values precise language, it annoys me when language is used sloppily and ultimately reinforces fear.

The word Riskpatient implies that you are ill. Here I think it would be better to consistently Risioko groups to speak.

The word Recovered also implies that you were ill, i.e. had symptoms of a disease. Hundreds of thousands of people who are labelled as "recovered" in the RKI statistics never had any symptoms. Here I would find it more correct to speak of infected and no longer infected or virus-free.

Swiss cheese plus imagination

The model of Swiss cheese with holes is often used to illustrate that the individual measures offer loopholes in themselves, but should offer quite reliable protection overall.

However, only the classic protective measures are usually listed: Hygiene rules, social distancing, ventilation, contact tracing, testing, masks.

As a coach, I would like to add a few more creative and empowering slices to the cheese. I believe - especially in a situation that seems uncontrollable - in doing what you can do yourself. This strengthens the feeling of security.

Only press buttons and switches in public areas with your elbow (This is highly recommended in Scandinavia).

Strengthen the immune system with medical support (see above)

Strengthen the cardiovascular system

For Sufficient exercise ensure 30 minutes of active exercise a day, preferably outdoors. Dance, build up your strength. Whatever makes you happy.

Alternating showers

I still jump into the Spree several times a week and swim a few lengths to strengthen my cardiovascular and immune systems.

You don't have to do it as blatantly as I do, but alternating showers are also helpful to mobilise the blood vessels, e.g. 20 seconds cold, 10 seconds hot and the whole thing five to eight times. Then you'll be awake and fit.

Exercise your lungs

Most people's lungs are squeezed as a result of sitting so much.
