\"\"<\/a>A quiet start to the year\u2026 and a look back at 2012\u2026 Lots of work on design at the publishing house, launched a new series of inspiration booklets: *The World-Changers*, worked on structures and processes\u2026 Nurtured friendships and relationships\u2026 and bought a boat.<\/p>\n

A look back at the ship:<\/h3>\n

Over the last six months, we\u2019ve actually made quite good progress. Karl, the shipbuilder, has cleared out the boat \u2013 with the occasional help of volunteers \u2013 and has already made good headway with removing the rust and painting it. I\u2019ve also bought or been given quite a bit of material:<\/p>\n

\u2013 A heating system<\/p>\n

\u2013 A water treatment plant<\/p>\n

\u2013 An oil tank \u2013 a free one; it was just sitting in someone\u2019s garden<\/p>\n

\u2013 A coating thickness gauge \u2013 to check the thickness of the ship\u2019s steel<\/p>\n

\u2013 A tank heater \u2013 so that frozen tanks can be defrosted in an emergency<\/p>\n

\u2013 An anti-ice treatment \u2013 to stop anything from freezing in the first place \u2013 that\u2019s important; ice can lift a light boat and cause it to capsize<\/p>\n

\u2013 Flags \u2013 because you simply need flags on a ship<\/p>\n

\u2013 Four fenders \u2013 these are, so to speak, a ship\u2019s \u201espacers\/shock absorbers\u201c<\/p>\n

\u2013 A tractor tyre \u2013 a free one \u2013 used as a massive fender against the quay wall<\/p>\n

In January, we\u2019ll start by taking the boat to the shipyard to have the holes in the steel inspected and repaired. We\u2019ll also be sandblasting the ceilings whilst we\u2019re there.<\/p>\n

After that, we\u2019ll carry on \u2013 hopefully with plenty of helpers \u2013 with the derusting and painting. Then we\u2019ll add ballast to the boat to ensure it has enough draught, and then we\u2019ll lay the flooring throughout. Once that\u2019s in place, it\u2019ll be time to celebrate. Then we\u2019ll get on with the rest of the fitting-out.<\/p>\n

What we need next:<\/h3>\n

\u2013 Generator (20 kW)<\/p>\n

\u2013 Good timber for the floor<\/p>\n

\u2013 Ballast \u2013 ideally lead in manageable portions<\/p>\n

\u2013 Plenty of practical help<\/p>\n

Just before New Year\u2019s Eve, the boat builder\u2019s bus broke down \u2013 and he obviously needs it urgently to transport things and so on. That\u2019s the last thing we needed right now. As he doesn\u2019t have any spare cash for this sort of thing at the moment, I paid for the repairs out of my own pocket \u2013 if any of you would like to help sponsor this, please let me know...<\/p>\n

I\u2019m really looking forward to seeing how things pan out. It\u2019s a new adventure every month to see how things fall into place\u2026.<\/p>\n

  • How can I, and do I want to, shape 2013 so that it becomes a year I\u2019ll look back on with fondness?<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    And I\u2019m curious to see what answers I\u2019ll discover. What I already suspect is this: the answer has a lot to do with living in the present, not having my mind elsewhere (in hopes, worries, dreams of the future)\u2026 but being close to God and to my heart in every moment.<\/p>\n
