Yes!<\/p>\n

I\u2019d been praying that God would send me an elderly person who had time on their hands, was good with their hands and would be happy to help me. God must have thought, \u201eIf that\u2019s all it takes.\u201c And He sent me a very nice elderly gentleman who has a lot of farming experience, likes boats and has time to spare. He\u2019s already helped me out a few times and will probably continue to be on board.<\/p>\n

On Thursday evening, on the drive back in the car (with heated seats \u2013 brilliant for a sore back), he told me and another woman who\u2019d helped out on board how he\u2019d met and fallen in love with his second wife (he was a widower). It was simply lovely to hear such a love story from a man\u2019s own lips.<\/p>\n

What new things have I discovered about life?<\/h3>\n

That people have very different questions about life and about God. After we got off the bus, the other woman said, \u201eSometimes I wonder why God gives some people a spouse twice, and others, like us, not even once.\u201c I was surprised. The question hadn\u2019t even crossed my mind.<\/p>\n

The next morning, I made a fruit salad. Once again, my hands were dripping with mango juice. I just can\u2019t seem to manage to cut up mangoes \u201eproperly\u201c. I wondered: why on earth did God create something as delicious as mangoes in such impractical packaging?.<\/p>\n

In short: the questions that people ask themselves and God are clearly different.<\/p>\n

What new things have I discovered about myself?<\/h3>\n

Envy of happy couples is clearly no longer an issue for me. On the one hand, because I know that most happiness comes with a fair bit of hard work. But perhaps also because, during a phase when I often struggled with envy towards happy couples, I got into the habit of blessing them (just like the couple in the photo, whom I don\u2019t know). Just saying a quick prayer that God may strengthen, sustain and bless them and their relationship. Hopefully that does them some good \u2013 it certainly does me.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
