24 is a favourite number of mine. My birthday is on 24 April, my father's on 24 February, my brother's on 2 April and we celebrate Christmas on 24 December. All good reasons to love this number.

But 2024 almost spoilt the wonderful number 24 for me.

2024 began with huge water damage - see Review of the year 2023<\/a>The housing of my relatively new pump cracked and the pump continued to pump. The result: 7000 litres of water in the boat, which I pumped out, scooped out and wiped out on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Oh yes, and the manufacturer, Gardena, refuses to pay compensation.

2024 ended with a complete power cut. I have solar power and batteries, but they only produce around 0.3 kilowatts on the dark days of the year. Daily consumption is between 3 and 7 KW. In the end, nothing worked: neither the pellet stove nor the internet and lights. I fled to friends who had electricity and heat.

Nevertheless, there were wonderful, marvellous moments, absolute highlights. But there were also days and weeks, months and even some people that I would have rather crossed off the calendar because they were so hard and difficult.

If I had to describe the year in 6 words, they would be these:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attempt to write a book<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I wrote my first book in 2007: Swing. Your life in balance<\/a><\/em>. The book about how to organise the week and life in such a way that work, creativity, relationships, peace and pure life remain in balance.

The Swing book<\/a> is still available and it still gives people a lot of inspiration. Nevertheless, it's getting a bit long in the tooth. Or maybe not the book. It's me. A lot has grown in me in the years since it was first published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the last 18 years !!! since its publication, I have deepened and supplemented it with a lot of practical experience and new findings from psychology, emotion research and neuroscience - in my lectures, workshops and at LEO<\/a>. This has not yet been Swing book<\/a> flowed in...

The plan: a new, expanded Swing book<\/a> must. Friends of mine run a guest house in St Vincent and the Grenadines (don't worry if you don't know it, I had to prompt it too). So I retreated to them on the wonderful island of Mayreau and wrote and wrote and wrote. Many hours a day!

Of course, there was still time to enjoy the beautiful island. Particularly impressive: watching new corals being grown. Pieces of coral are glued to tables in sheltered places until they are big enough to be released back into the wild. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few months later, the island was hit hard by Hurricane Beryl and the guest house at 90% was destroyed. My friends are helping to rebuild it. I help as much as I can from afar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, I didn't finish the book and I didn't think what I had written was really rounded and ready for publication. Maybe it was too much sun after all...

But as soon as I got back, other things took over...<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then the roof came (off) <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A year earlier, I had already bought the almost 100-year-old cargo ship lying next to my ship at a favourable price. Edelweiss<\/a> can acquire. The Edelweiss is currently neither elegant nor white, but with a length of 40 metres and a width of 5 metres, it offers plenty of space for ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n
