\"Clock,<\/a>I\u2019m currently working on the new Quadro module on \u201eWork Organisation\u201c. What I wrote in one of the introductory chapters really struck a chord with me, so I\u2019d like to share it with you in advance.<\/p>\n

Three stonemasons working on a building site were asked by a passer-by: \u201eWhat are you doing there?\u201c The first replied: \u201eI\u2019m cutting stone.\u201c The second replied, \u201eI\u2019m working on an archway.\u201e The third replied, \u201cI\u2019m helping the famous architect Christopher Wren to build a cathedral.\u201d You can imagine who derived more meaning and satisfaction from their work.<\/p>\n

Every person \u2013 unless they happen to be a drug dealer \u2013 contributes through their job to enriching the lives of others. They help, so to speak, the great architect of life to feed, clothe, educate and transport people, and much more besides.<\/p>\n

You have the choice of saying: \u201eI manufacture screws\u201c or \u201eI sell clothes\u201c or \u201eI help people to fasten things together.\u201c Or \u201eThanks to my job, other people can dress themselves and express their personality.\u201c<\/p>\n

The broader the perspective, the more fulfilling the work feels \u2013 even when it involves monotonous tasks such as changing nappies (\u201eI\u2019m helping a little person to live a healthy life\u201c) or filing paperwork (\u201eI\u2019m helping others to find their way\u201c). Whether you\u2019re programming computers or selling bread rolls \u2013 it\u2019s deeply satisfying to remember how your work enriches the lives of others. And you can tell others too: \u201eWhat you do enriches my life.\u201c<\/p>\n

Just think:<\/strong> How do other people\u2019s jobs enrich your life? How does your job contribute to theirs?<\/p>\n
