Great team of helpers

2014-02-07 13.58.11Today we had a team from Stralsund on board – three women and two men. I’d told them beforehand that a lot of the work on the ship remains unseen… and today they carried out a whole range of important tasks that will later be out of sight… cleaning a fridge that I’m giving away to free up space on board… (it’s too big). Cleaned items from my „museum“ (old ship’s equipment) (this will remain visible): cut holes in the fender rail / rubbing strake („bumper“) of the ship to check the condition of the material. Painted 31 slats – and we’ve all learnt the difference between slats and boards – which will later disappear beneath the substructure. Cleaned the rooms. Something that will certainly no longer be visible in a few weeks’ time. But it’s important now, so as not to let things get cluttered up.

Always bend your knees properly when lifting heavy loads.

Much of her work will no longer be visible once the ship has been under construction for another week or two or three… and yet I will know that we wouldn’t have got this far without her. I am very grateful!
It was also lovely to have a chat with one of the senior staff at the shipyard where the ship is moored. He said: „I’m really proud of you for what you’re doing…“ Wow… that really moved me! Especially because he knows his stuff and understands what goes into building a ship like that.
I’m so grateful for this absolutely lovely day! What a treat!
