Experiencing God - how is it easier?
This week's question of the week deals with the topic of spirituality or how one could possibly experience God:
Have you ever felt or experienced God?
If so, what might you have contributed to this?
If not, what might you have contributed to this?
Experiencing God - very dramatically
Sure, there are the stories that go BUM and seem pretty much as if a benevolent God had intervened. Like with Matthias, who was given up by the doctors after a serious stroke - and surprisingly came back to life. I have his story here in the blog.
Or when an escaped Muslim woman on a sinking rubber dinghy cries out to Jesus and then sees a white figure on the water and shortly afterwards safely reaches the shore.
Experience God - in everyday life
Such goosebump stories are impressive. But in many cases, people don't really long for the dramatic - they would find it wonderful if they could somehow feel that God loves them from time to time.
This was the experience of a person in a café who told me that he couldn't believe in God because he had never felt him. My friends and I then prayed for exactly that. I don't know what exactly happened in response to the prayer - only that the man said: „Now I've felt it!“ That was the beginning of his walk with God.
Reinhard, a former classmate, felt differently. We prayed the same prayer for him and asked him if he had felt God. He said „no“. I asked him: „Did you perhaps feel something like a warmth or something similar? “Yes, totally. My whole body felt warm." I explained to him that this might have been God wanting to show himself to him.
Experience God - through mindfulness for the small differences
With questions like these, my Coaching training into play. One aspect of coaching is to help people recognise small differences that make things better or worse. For example, a couple can have deeper conversations when they are sitting together at the kitchen table than when they are cosying up on the sofa.
Recognising differences in faith
I find it easier to enter into a dialogue with God when I sit, walk or dance on the floor. I have painted a prayer path on the roof of my boat especially for this purpose.
It is also easier for me to pour out my heart to God when I can do so in a calm and quiet way. Wingwave music that de-stresses the emotional system. Those who learn to recognise such differences can act more consciously and take action - in life and in faith.
Experiencing God - how?
My question of the week is aimed at the small, subtle differences that affect whether encounters with people or God are experienced as satisfying: I assume that God wants to meet you. That is the core of the Christian message as I understand it. A God who is far away is not attractive, at least not to me.
But now and again it is our attitudes - inner attitude and posture - and actions that close us off to an encounter with him.
My tip: Use the question of the week to help you search for differences.
Experiencing God - a few further tips
A few weeks ago, I published a blog post on the topic of „How to connect with God!“ written. Read it if that's your topic.
There is also a free ebook from me on the subject of „Experiencing God's Fatherly Love“, which gives you very practical tips that can help you to experience God more.
If you really want to know and experience more deeply how God loves you, treat yourself to the course Ida. In your arms. Experiencing God's fatherly love. I will accompany you for three months on your journey to experience God more deeply and more closely.
I'm excited to see what you experience with the question and look forward to your comments.
