Start of the month - time to focus

CIMG0030There are few things that are as valuable to me and give me as much strength as the habit of taking the first day of the month to reflect, pray and plan. I was inspired to do this by a lecture by Arthur Burk, who spoke about the biblical tradition of sanctifying something, which means nothing other than setting something apart, declaring it to be something special and making it so. I have also often about itrubbed.

Designing the beginning of the month - a few more new aspects

In the Bible, people were sanctified - chosen for special tasks. But also places like the temple, which God says should be a holy place where he wants to dwell.

And last but not least, times. The very first chapter of the Bible reads „God hallowed the seventh day....“. And he invited people to also make this day holy. To use it as a day of rest and encounter with God. From this one holy day, strength flows into the week that is blessed and sanctified as a result.

My start of the month

I have adopted this principle for my first day of the month. On the first day, I consciously spend the whole day with God. This doesn't mean that I spend the whole time praying or reading the Bible. Rather, it means that I see the time as „reserved for God“ ...., which may well include a shopping trip, a little tidying up or - like today - repotting plants. It is important for me to consciously experience and organise the whole day in his presence - more intensively than is possible in the hustle and bustle of other days - and thus to signal this: The whole month that follows is to be lived with God.

And yes, reflecting on what happened in the previous month is just as important to me as praying and listening and planning for the time ahead. A rich day that I can deeply enjoy.
