Mein Schiff - past and present

A few days ago, I received an email:

I have followed the reports on the ship’s restoration to date with great interest… I came across a page belonging to the GDR Inland Shipping Company which mentioned the ship’s current whereabouts. As a child and teenager, I often spent my holidays on this ship when it was still in regular service as a passenger vessel for the “White Fleet“, sailing from Stralsund to Zingst – Kloster (Hiddensee) in the summer.

I last saw this ship in Hamburg in 2009, when it was in a very poor condition. My father in particular will be delighted when I can tell him that someone is looking after „his“ ship again; he served as an engineer on the „Gellen“ from when it entered service in the early 1970s until the mid-1980s and therefore knows the steamer inside out.
