Crises and clarity
Lately, I’ve often heard people say, „So-and-so got me into a conflict.“ On the face of it, this seems to be true when someone’s question or request doesn’t, in some way, fit in with one’s own expectations.
But I no longer believe that another person has the power to plunge me into an inner conflict. I now believe that an inner conflict is nothing more than a sign showing me: ‘I haven’t got clarity on this yet.’.
With ‘Down to Earth’, I face all sorts of dilemmas: should I focus on this or that? Should I put my energy here or there? Every dilemma challenges me to gain clarity. To discover what matters to me. Things, opportunities, events or people can never all be equally important. Something is simply a touch more important or better.
Gaining clarity about what is important to me at a particular moment, or in general, is incredibly empowering. And it gives me freedom.
That’s my opinion. What do you think?
Hello Kerstin,
I’ve never looked at it that way before, but I think it’s true. The impetus can only come from outside, but the conflict lies within me if I don’t know what I want. Or if I find it difficult to say no. Often, a ‘no’ comes across as a personal rejection, even though it’s only meant to refer to one specific thing or request.
Finding clarity and then acting on it automatically means saying ‘no’ from time to time. Personally, I find this difficult, and I keep missing out on opportunities because I can’t make up my mind. But I mustn’t shift the blame for that onto others!
