The letter of inspiration: Don't wait for your dream
The best way to make dreams come true is to wake up. - Paul Valéry
Hello,
since my book Cast off I am constantly asked: How did you manage to make your dream come true?
Before I answer that, I want to define what I mean by a lifelong dream. I formulated it like this for the blog „More than pretty“:
A lifelong dream = to create something that gives your own nature and talents the greatest possible room for development - for your own pleasure and for the benefit of others.
You can find the full article here: „More than pretty: The crazy dream part 1!
Dreams must be lived!
If you have a real dream within you, you can't help but look for ways to realise it. After all, the dream is something that corresponds deeply to one's own nature.
Every dream has a core. The essence of the dream - something that deeply corresponds to our own personality, to how God has created us.
What is the core of your dream? And what is the form?
The core of my dream, for example, is to accompany and support people and help them take a decisive step forward in life.
The practical realisation of a dream can take various forms. The form I chose was to convert a ship for this purpose. The ship is wonderful. But it is not the core of my dream. It's just the shape.
I could have chosen 100 other ways to live my dream, and I did: I hosted people in my flat, held seminars at home and abroad, taught, wrote books ...
I wrote about this in detail in the article „How do I discover my life's dream?“ written.
You can find this and other articles about the ship and the art of realising dreams in the article A marvellous problem.
Many people confuse the form of realisation with the core of the dream. They think they can't live their dream because they don't have the money to open the café they dream of. Or because their health doesn't allow them to travel to countries where they would like to help. Unfortunately, many dreams remain unrealised.
Find your dream - in three steps
That is why I would like to encourage you here: First of all, stop dreaming about a single form of realisation - and get to the core of your dream first.
- Ask yourself
- What moves you deeply?
- What would you like to contribute to?
- Where does your heart blossom?
- Brainstorming ideas
Once the core is clear, make a crazy long list with at least 20 ideas on how you can live the dream. If you can't think of anything else, ask friends to think with you.
- Find and take the first step
Then consider: What could the first step towards realisation look like?
We have created a worksheet for you - you can find it here:
