Ineffective consolation

„Their comfort is worthless.“ With these words, God complains about people who present themselves as spiritual experts (fortune-tellers) but have nothing of substance to offer. I was already aware that He and His prophets regard the statements and dreams of fortune-tellers as empty and devoid of meaning. But the aspect of comfort only struck me when I read the passage from Zechariah 10 again yesterday.
Perhaps I noticed it partly because, the day before, I had experienced the power of genuine comfort. Paul Young had spoken so profoundly about God’s love and His comfort that one would have had to be made of stone not to be moved by it. The audience consisted largely of people who had immersed themselves in all manner of spiritual practices, masters and methods that promised them enlightenment and strength. But these clearly hadn’t provided the comfort they were seeking. At any rate, I could think of no other explanation for the appeal Paul held with his warm and empathetic manner.
Perhaps people are also tired of all the effort involved in various practices. I spotted a poster there where a master was promoting himself by claiming that other people’s practices were unnecessary.

Someone else told me: „I don’t like people who channel all sorts of things from the universe and then claim Hartz IV benefits.“

They were interesting experiences and encounters. I find it fascinating to look at all this in the context of the question of comfort. People seek comfort.
