Hello dear friend...
I’ve just received an email with the subject line „Hello dear friend“. Without giving it much thought, I was about to move it straight into the spam folder. Every day I receive dozens of emails that use exactly this salutation to promise me millions. Or ask for help for children supposedly suffering from leukaemia.
Just as I had my finger on the delete button, I realised that the sender was a real friend of mine – one of my best friends, in fact. I wondered if I sometimes do the same with God. He speaks to me: „Hello, dear friend…“ I press „Delete“ because I don’t even realise he’s talking to me. Instead of simply saying, „Oh. Hello. It’s you! Let’s talk!“
Hello Kerstin,
With a subject line like that, I’d immediately think it was a spam email too. Fortunately, I don’t get many of those. But just as I was reading it, I noticed something odd.
Of course, I get quite a few spam emails at the office too; they used to be a real mixed bag: adverts for competitions, holidays, a certain type of medication… and so on.
I’ve still been getting spam at the office for the past few weeks, but now it’s exclusively about watches. All sorts of senders are offering me timepieces, chronometers, jewellery watches… and so on.
I asked my colleague at the next table if it was the same for him, but he said no. He’s still getting the old, varied selection.
I haven’t worn a watch for quite a few years now, and I’ve never ordered one online either.
This post suddenly made me wonder whether it might be possible that God is trying to tell me something through this selection of spam emails?
The subject of time and how to manage it is something that keeps coming up for me in many ways, and it’s a constant focus of my prayers. Although, unfortunately, I’m really treading water… so this would be just the thing.
Best wishes from Hamburg and have a lovely holiday
Marion
Hello, Marion
I would say that God can use anything to speak to you. I can remember a situation where I received an email from a real person that really frightened and upset me. Immediately after reading that awful email, a spam email arrived: „Don’t be afraid.“ For me, that was God’s comfort in that situation. That’s why I like the idea that God is using the watch advert to remind you that there are many different ways to manage your time – through methods (time-keeping tools), decorative watches (ways of managing time that you find attractive and enjoy), and so on. Many blessings, Kerstin
