Knowing God and acting with him

11179943_10155445607590623_8127252150424667995_nOn the 1st of May I'm going to England to spend a month learning, being challenged and trained in faith and supernatural acting. I wrote about how this came about a few weeks ago in the blog post Learning to work miracles described.

I'm not interested in sensationalism - even though I think it's pretty cool when people get out of wheelchairs and chronic pain or skin rashes disappear. Jesus did this all the time. So did his disciples. I believe that he still wants to do it today. For people. He does mighty things on his own - because he is God. And he wants us to take part in his trade - because he calls us his friends.

The training there will involve a lot of Bible study and reading and practical challenges. In addition to this, I want to consciously practise opening my heart more deeply to Jesus. I am currently reading Prayer as an encounter by Charles Bello and Kristian Reschke. There are instructions for the so-called Examen - a spiritual practice by Ignatius of Loyoloa.

He recommends asking prayerfully at the end of the day:

  • What was the strongest moment of encouragement today? (When was I most alive today?)
  • What was the most devastating moment today? (When was I least alive today?)

And then to retrace these moments and ask God what exactly made me perceive the moment as so special. And what he wants to show me.

Inspired by the wonderful book Sleeping with Bread, which also introduces the practice of daily reflection, I did this for a while. But not with the aspect of then asking Jesus even more deeply what exactly it was that moved me. Here I want to go deeper in my encounter with him and love him.

I will be taking my favourite beautifully designed notebook Silent Thoughts with me, which I love because it has no lines but delicate dots... and great quotes!!! And I am excited to see what I will experience... God's work with me and in me.

Something else practical:

I'm looking forward to England. At the same time, it costs something. Not working for a month AND having higher expenses at the same time is challenging as a self-employed person.

One day in England (accommodation, course fee, meals, travelling expenses) costs a good 50 euros. I'm there for 30 days...that's....

I see it as an investment in my future and the future of others.
If you would like to support my time there, I would be delighted.
