Next project: Winterproof office

2016-09-30-09-04-57Today there was a partial power cut on the ship.

Among other things, the controls for the large heating system stopped working - brrr. To make matters worse, it was very windy and the wind was whistling through the cracks in the window frames in the wheelhouse, where I have my office. I first sealed it up with gauze bandages (emphasis on poor). The single-glazed panes are not a hit anyway. And not particularly energy-efficient.

It's quite clear: something has to happen here soon, otherwise I won't survive the winter well.

Next week, boat builder Helge will be coming for about two weeks to tackle the „wheelhouse project“.

  • Insulate all joints and cracks
  • Apply a second layer of window glass (yay!)
  • Cladding the ceilings and walls
  • Laying the floor

The office should then be at least halfway winter-proof.

Of course it costs.

  • A few hundred euros for the glass
  • 100 - 150 euros for insulation material
  • 100 - 200 euros for paints, sealant etc.
  • Working hours

All in all, I estimate that the whole thing will cost between 1500 and 2000 euros. Basically not a lot for fitting out an entire room. But a lot if you don't have it.

I currently have minus 20 euros in my account. So it's challenging once again.

If you are interested in the „Warm winter office“, you are very welcome to support us. Either by making a financial contribution. Or by helping out for a few hours or days.

The stove is running again. With the exception of the wheelhouse and the entrance area, it is cosy and warm everywhere on board.

You are very welcome.

10 hours later: I forgot to mention something:

2016-10-30-11-47-28The chairs have arrived. After a long wait, the chairs for the seminar room finally arrived a long time ago. And they are marvellously beautiful.

Because we still have a construction phase ahead of us, I've only unpacked and assembled three. But they are super comfortable - just as I wanted them to be. And so wide that you can even sit cross-legged on them - a pleasure.

THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored a chair and made this possible.

This is such a gift.
