Perspective
I’ve just experienced that – and I’ve already included it in my new book *Life: Plain and Simple* under the heading „P“ for „Perspective“. You’re welcome to have a sneak peek…
„Thank you for my job,“ sang the busker. Of course, I don’t know whether he really meant what he was singing. Still, it moved me. I remember that song from my childhood. I know how the lyrics go „thank you for every little bit of happiness. Thank you for everything beautiful, bright and for the music“. Giving thanks for the beautiful things in life – that’s easy.
But I could still be grateful to God and to life even if I had to earn my money by busking. As I walked past the musician, I had a bunch of tulips in my bike basket. Not the expensive, double-flowered ones – my budget just doesn’t stretch that far at the moment. But lovely, bright orange tulips. I can easily afford those. How lovely!
I was deeply moved by the encounter. Essentially, it brought about a change in perspective. I compared my life to what his life is probably like. And in doing so, I rediscovered the treasures I possess. All too often, I focus on the difficulties and challenges that come with my life as an author and publisher. This encounter made me realise once again just how much I have to be grateful for. I’m also grateful that this man helped me realise that anew.
