Three more months of Luther Year...phew
I confess: I will be personally relieved when the Luther Year and all the fuss about the (not only) good man is finally over. Luther theatre plays, Luther biscuits, black, red and gold Luther socks with „Here I stand, I can't help it“, Luther coffee - fair trade, of course, Luther Playmobil figures and Luther Bibles.
Okay, the Luther Bible already existed before the Luther Year - although it should be mentioned in passing that Luther copied parts of the Old Testament from a translation written by one of the Anabaptists he bloodily persecuted. So it should actually be called the Luther Anabaptist Bible. But I suspect that wouldn't go down too well in marketing terms.
Mn the midst of all the Luther fuss, I sometimes almost get the impression that some church people think Luther is more important than God. Perhaps that impression is deceptive.
Luther or no Luther: I am delighted that our Short biography on Martin Luther is used by many as an introduction to studying him. It's also really good.
But so do the others: Martin Luther King, Margarethe Steiff, Nelson Mandela, Coco Chanel, to name just a few of the World changer who have brought about revolutions or reformations in their field.
