Rhythm and times
Today I hung my summer shirts at the back of the wardrobe. I find that regrettable. I love summer, the sun and the warmth. It's probably my favourite season and I think it's a shame that the warmth is now over for a while.
Nevertheless, I love the seasons and look forward to autumn. I like the vastness of harvested fields - like in the picture ( Brandenburg. Last week). I also think it's nice that after the relaxing summer comes the productive autumn. I like to work and I like to be creative and productive. That's why I'm looking forward to writing a new little book in the next few weeks, even if the time frame is quite tight. I recently discussed with my team all the things we will be producing between now and March. There are always two cycles in publishing and bookselling: In winter, we produce for the summer. In spring/early summer for autumn. There are also a dozen or so seminars and lectures....is a productive time.
Rhythms are good for me. If the rhythm in which I live my days, weeks and months gets mixed up over a long period of time, I become „frayed“ inside. Then I get restless and come under pressure more easily. I enjoy and need to live good rhythms...maybe that's why I wrote a whole book about it: Swing. Your life in balance.
It is certainly one of my trademarks that the organisation of life rhythms is so important to me. But I believe that it is not only good for me. The story of creation and the entire Bible repeatedly emphasise the importance of seasons, times of rest, Sabbaths, festivals, celebrations and highlights. God seems to love rhythms. And if it is true that we are created in his image, then it probably also makes sense that we respect and honour rhythms. At least it does me good.
Now I'm about to set off for a Saturday afternoon coffee with a friend. That's also part of the rhythm.
