Robbery
Tonight my beloved recumbent bike was stolen from the locked backyard.
What a mean thing to do! And such frustration. I drive 60 - 100 kilometres every week. Mostly in Berlin. I actually do almost everything by bike. It's good for me. I just loved it. Suddenly it's gone. Just stupid and nasty. Every loss hurts... and for me this is a huge material and immaterial loss. And a loss of time to solve it now. Press charges. And probably look for a new bike.
Nevertheless. I wouldn't be me if I let it get me down completely. I read today that the word resilience comes from materials science and refers to the ability of a material to return to its original shape after an impact.
The common theft is a hard blow and makes you sad. But it would be even more stupid if I let it rob me of my zest for life. That would be really stupid. Today I want to give myself time to be sad. Tomorrow I'll look for solutions.
Note to the thieves:
As I have two damaged discs, I am dependent on my recumbent bike. Only 4 of my bike, Recumbent Phantom Lightning, frame size M (for women) have been sold in Europe so far. So it might be difficult for you to sell the bike anyway. I would therefore ask you to return it to me as soon as possible. [Berlin, Laubacher Str. 16 II].
Note to buyers of used recumbents
If you are offered a used Recumbent Phantom recumbent bike in frame size M, please do not hesitate to contact me. There is a good chance that it is my stolen recumbent bike. Thank you!
Note to Berliners
If you see this good piece somewhere at a flea market - please let me know very quickly. Or the police too.
I'm so sorry for you! I ordered something from you straight away as a little solidarity surcharge!
That's really nice! Solidarity just does me good right now! Thank you, dear Beate!
I'm sorry to hear that. You live round the corner from me and as a recumbent cyclist I've noticed you 2-3 times.
I wish you every success!
@Olli...thanks...for the good wishes....When you see me next time (temporarily on a borrowed conventional bike, you can say „hello“ in real life....
I'm really sorry for you. Nevertheless, I must of course ask why the bike was (probably) not locked with a good & expensive U-lock (e.g. Cryptonite New York Lock)? If you leave your bike outside - wherever - anything other than a U-lock for at least 100 euros is negligent. Nevertheless, I wish you every success and that the bike will soon be yours again :-) Heinz.
@Heinz: Thank you for your sympathy. There are not enough places in our yard to properly lock up all the bikes...since the yard itself is locked, it was not to be expected ...and somehow I also find it crass that you have to spend so much money to protect yourself from other people doing bad things.
I'll give it a try - although the recumbent bike makes it easier to recognise people from a long way off :-)
You'll recognise me by my dark blue Speedmachine or the metallic blue M5 Lowracer :-)
Hi, Oli - I'll keep my eyes open....and say hello if I see you!
man kerstin, that makes me really angry. i have built up your bike, lost about 4 bikes myself through theft and also once separated a bike thief from other people's property by means of physical violence (as a christian! - awesome!)- makes me really sad, especially since the guys can assume that if you ride a „better“ bike, this serves as a basis for mobility (instead of a car) and the loss can have devastating consequences (e.g. increased commuting costs, new purchase etc.)...
Thanks, Sprotte for your sympathy....yes, it's really stupid! Really stupid. And I think it's nasty that people do that!
