Good Friday...
I thank you, Lord Jesus, for becoming a human being
so I don’t have to pretend or try to be God.
I thank you, Lord Jesus, for becoming finite and limited
That way, I don’t have to pretend that I am infinite and limitless.
I thank you, crucified God, for becoming mortal
So I don’t have to try to make myself immortal.
I thank you, Lord Jesus, for humbling yourself
So I don’t have to pretend that I’m better than anyone else.
I thank you for being crucified outside the city walls,
for being cast out and excluded like sinners and outcasts,
so you can meet me where I feel I am,
always outside the bounds of worthiness.
I thank you for becoming weak, Lord Jesus,
so I don’t have to be strong.
I thank you for being willing to be seen as imperfect and strange,
So I don’t have to be perfect and normal.
I thank you, Jesus, for being willing to be disapproved of,
That way, I don’t have to try so hard to be accepted and liked.
I thank you for being regarded as a failure,
That way, I don’t have to waste my life trying to pretend I’m a success.
I thank you for being wrong by the standards of religion and the state,
So I don’t have to be right about anything, not even in my own mind.

[Unfortunately, I only have the text in English]
As the text is „only“ available in English, I had to take the time to read and understand it. I couldn’t just „skim through“ it to pick up the main points in a hurry. And that is exactly what the text deserves – for you to take your time and let it sink in. Thank you.
