My drawn gratitude diary

It was a dream. Today the autumn mist rose over the water and was shone through by golden sunshine - I enjoyed it, stored it in my mind and will also draw it in my gratitude diary.

Gratitude diary by Kerstin Hack: A thank you note

My gratitude diary

Every morning, I think about what I am currently grateful for. I then draw a little sketch in my gratitude diary of one thing that I am particularly grateful for the day before. I am not an artist. At school, I was happy if I got a „good“ grade for my drawings. „Satisfactory“ was more likely.

But my gratitude diary is not about great art, it's about focussing:

  • What made me happy?
  • What did I experience as something special?

These are often not the big things, but small moments. Yesterday, friends helped me to put the heavy, large panels on deck back in the right place. It was physically and mentally challenging and a great moment of happiness when it was done.

Review with the gratitude diary

Even though I'm not a great artist, I can usually recognise what is depicted in a drawing. And because a picture is worth a thousand words, looking at the sketch immediately brings back all the memories of the beautiful moment.

I flick through the pages of my gratitude diary and am flooded with gratitude for the big, beautiful moments and, above all, the many small, happy moments.

  1. Thank you for this wonderful idea. I have now also started to let pictures speak instead of words in my gratitude diary :-)
