Rain of money for the ship - final spurt

2014-05-16 17.36.03Over the weekend, I found out that my current mooring and berth are needed for another boat. I can stay there until the end of July – any longer wouldn’t be ideal for the boat builder, who needs the space for the other boat.

In concrete terms, this means:

  • All major work should be completed and paid for by the end of July: ventilation, plumbing, electrical work, portholes, external doors and work on the deck.
  • All major work must be paid for by then.

What costs I can expect:

  • Outstanding mooring fees and electricity charges: €2,800
  • Four external doors and installation: €3,000
  • Ventilation – equipment and installation €8,000–€10,000
  • Bathroom fittings (washbasins, showers): €2,000
  • Plumbing installation 3000 €
  • Electrical work – materials and installation €4,000
  • Flooring (cork, wood) €3,000
  • 6 interior doors €2,500
  • Flooring (cork, wood) €3,000
  • Kitchen and kitchenette €3,000
  • Electrical appliances (fridge, dishwasher, washing machine…): €2,000
  • Optional – if already possible: solar panel system 8–10,000

Total: €44,300 – €48,000 (not including any unforeseen costs! So probably €50,000+ in total)

I still have a bit of energy left and am doing everything I can to keep the project going. I pitch in myself three afternoons a week (Mon, Wed, Fri) and on Saturdays. And I’m doing everything I can to earn the necessary money: I rent out my bedroom to visitors to Berlin, sell things on eBay, second-hand books on Amazon, publish as many books as possible (which, of course, costs money too!), run seminars, coach people….

But one thing is clear: I can’t tackle this challenge on my own.

My request to you: please lend a hand!

  • Shop at Down to Earth one: Lots of gifts for yourself and others! Maybe even to stock up. Every penny I earn from this goes towards the ship.
  • Come along for a few hours or a few days and lend a hand. Anyone with two hands (whether left, right or a mix of both) is welcome. If you know any helpful people and/or handymen – tell them about the ship – and encourage them to come along.
  • Please donate 5 euros to help us reach our goal. Hundreds of people know me. If everyone who knows me gave me 5 euros, that would cover a significant portion of the costs. 5 euros isn’t much. But it would help me a great deal.
  • Encourage others to take part in the €5 cash giveaway. For example, friends, a flat-share or a small group that you’re part of.

This is how the money comes to me:

  • Drop it off yourself, if you're coming on board anyway ;-) or by post: K.H., Laubacher Str. 16 II, 14197 Berlin
  • Paypal: Info@down-to-earth.de (Please note: PayPal charges me 4% in fees… if possible, please add this amount to the total)
  • Transfer to my account: Account holder: Kerstin Hack // Account number: 0478578209 // Sort code: 10080000 (Commerzbank)
  • About Betterplace – the advantage here is that you can also donate anonymously if you wish.

I can’t wait to see what happens! Thanks to everyone who’s helped out in one way or another so far – I couldn’t have done it without you!
