Do I need a coach and if so, how many?

Everyone is talking about coaching. Professionals and athletes have their coaches, models treat themselves to a fitness coach and you hear more and more often in the private sphere too: "I went to a coach with the issue"

Do I need a coach?

A good question. - And a valid one.

Although I work enthusiastically as a coach myself, I am very clear and convinced:

Nobody needs coaching.

We need water to drink, food to eat, protection from the weather and storms. We need relationships and closeness. We need movement.

We don't need coaching in the sense that we need the essentials.

But coaching can be a gift that takes us further in life. We need what coaching can give us: Clarity, perspectives, solutions.

Coaching for the highs and lows in life

There is a sign on my ship: Accompaniment for the highs and lows in life. It describes the two situations in which coaching is particularly helpful.

In depth: coaching helps to solve problems

I often experience that. A person comes to me with a problem. They are afraid of flying or giving a speech. Or there is a lack of perspective on how to proceed.

In problem-solving coaching, I support the coaching client in unravelling knots and gaining new perspectives. One or two hours is often enough to resolve an inner blockage or crack a problem.

It is possible to solve a problem yourself, but sometimes you are blind and don't see your own blind spots. And it often takes eight to ten times longer to find the solution than if you seek professional support.

At heights: Coaching supports development

Less well known is coaching as process support for people who are basically doing well but want to develop their potential further.

Athletes have coaches who help them get the most out of their talent. Many entrepreneurs and managers have a business coach who supports them on their path to greater success.

But coaching can also help you to become stronger in your private life. Typical topics for guidance on or to the heights are...

  •  Personal development: more self-confidence, empathy or determination
  •   Fitness and health: lose weight or learn to eat better
  •   Profession: Get ahead in your job and career, become more successful, achieve more

It's clear that developments such as becoming more confident in dealing with other people or more successful at work take time. One hour of coaching is usually not enough. Regular support over a few months or a year makes sense here.

Have you ever asked yourself: Do I need a coach? - I believe that the biggest problem is that many people make decisions too quickly without knowing exactly what they need at the moment. I have developed a little test for this.

Take the test for your coaching decision: 10 questions

Part 1: Acute challenges

  • Do my thoughts often revolve around the same problems?
  • Am I struggling with fears and blockages and have not been able to resolve them on my own?
  • Do I finally want to give up certain bad habits?
  • Am I unhappy with my life or a certain situation...
    • but don't know how to do it better or know how but can't get it right?
    • Do I want to cope better with stress in relationships and at work?

Part 2: Wider perspective

  • Do I fail to fulfil my New Year's resolutions almost every year?
  •  Do I have goals and visions that I have not yet achieved, e.g. losing weight, tidiness, career, partnership, spirituality?
  •  Am I dissatisfied with my status quo and do I wish I could fulfil my potential better?
  •  Are there patterns and habits that I use to sabotage myself again and again?
  •  Do I have the feeling that my life as it is right now doesn't suit me or am I worried that at the end of my life I might say: I didn't live the way I actually wanted to?

If you are everywhere "no" and mastering the challenges you face confidently on your own is simply wonderful. Congratulations.

But if you answer one or more questions with "Yes" congratulations as well.

You have taken a realistic inventory and can clearly see where you would like to see change. This is the first step towards improvement.

And you don't have to tackle it alone. In all the areas above, coaching can help you to stop getting stuck, unravel the knots and move forward.

Clarify three bonus questions

  • Am I prepared to talk openly about my wishes and difficulties?
  • Do I believe that another person can help me?
  • Can I and do I want to invest in my change?

If you are here three times "Yes" you can choose between two types of coaching.

Coaching as support for acute challenges

Coaching helps you to see the wood for the trees. A good coach can help you dissolve fears, blockages and disruptive behaviour patterns - for good!

A professional coach can help you find solutions if you are unable to make progress on your own.

Great progress can often be made in just one to four hours. After a coaching session, your vision is clearer, your fear has disappeared and you have developed practical strategies for moving forward.

Coaching for your goals and strengthening your potential

You are often frustrated because you know that you have more potential but are unable to realise it. You would like to be more successful at work or in your own business, but you are not getting anywhere.

You've wanted to get fitter, slimmer, friendlier or more confident for a long time, but you haven't managed it yet despite your efforts - then a longer period of support from a coach could be just the thing.

Professional athletes, but also business people, have coaches who help them progress, encourage and strengthen them. I myself have two coaches who help me to become stronger, more successful and more confident.

A good coach can help you overcome inner limitations and realise your full potential. They can be the decisive factor in ensuring that you get the success you deserve for your efforts.

If you would like longer-term support to achieve your goals, you can a free initial consultation to talk about your goals and consider whether and in what form coaching might be suitable for you.

This applies to everything: Coaching costs time and money. But those who don't treat themselves to coaching often pay an even higher price: by chewing on problems unsuccessfully for much longer than necessary, they may lose much more energy and money than necessary.

That doesn't have to be the case.

I look forward to getting to know you and accompanying you as a coach!
