Dream sofa - search - a little nightmare
The guest room in the ship is wonderful. As you sleep, you are gently pulled back and forth by the waves. Outside the portholes, the Spree ripples past. The walls are panelled with light-coloured wood, the floor is covered with pleasant-to-the-touch cork - a dream.
It only has a few small disadvantages.
- It's crooked. „Ship comes from crooked“ is what boat builder Helge always says. In the guest room, this means that the wall on the port side is wider at the top than at the bottom (approx. 40 cm) and wider at the back than at the front. We have already built a platform to compensate for this. But only at the very top under the ceiling would the boat be wide enough to allow two people to sleep next to each other. But then you can't get any more air!
- Narrow sleeping area: The sleeping area is 1.50 cm wide on three sides and 1.80 cm wide on the fourth, which is okay for one person (you can fit a mattress in there if you cut it at an angle), but it's not ideal for two people. You can't create enough space for two people with mattresses next to each other - unless one of them is shorter than 1.50 cm.
- The stairs and the door are narrow.
As I also want to make it possible for couples to sleep on the boat, it was clear that I needed a sofa bed. But which one?
Boat builder Helge and I recently spent from 8.00 in the evening until 1.00 in the morning googling to find suitable models. These are the hours of „building time“ that nobody sees and yet are so important to ensure that everything is beautiful in the end.
Result
- 90% give me the feeling of having suffered aesthetic bodily harm (colour, shape) e.g. Black-Red-White
- 80% do not fit through the door of the guest room
- 70% are not suitable in terms of statics, the centre of gravity is too far forward, they would tip off the platform.
- 40% are priceless
In the end we have a found a dream sofa bed, that fulfils all the criteria. And we took a close look at it in a showroom in Berlin, measured it - it really fits.
The only snag that remains. I don't have 679.99 euros right now to buy the good piece. The account is almost completely in the red. Buying things for the interior now is not an option.
My wish would be to have the good piece ready for use by my birthday at the end of April, when I am expecting lots of guests. If you want to help make my dream sofa come true, then ask me for my PayPal email or account number. If I get - at least - half of it as a gift, I'll order it. Then hopefully it will be ready for use by my birthday.
If I can't get the money together, I'll just have to wait and improvise...
But...I would be really happy if it works out.
