Couples, children and love

Yesterday I read that 40 % of parents who get divorced separate in the first(!) year after the birth of their first child. For unmarried couples, the number of those who separate in the first year after the birth is even higher. That moves me. Most of them don't want to separate. They want to stay together. But somehow it doesn't work out.
A huge tragedy for every couple, every family. A loss for everyone - for the siblings who may never be conceived and born, the children who are missing and the children who miss having mummy and daddy together and with them.
I wonder what can be done to support young families to find ways together to cope with the challenging baby years.

In contrast, yesterday I received an email from a man who has been caring for his wife, who has suffered from severe dementia for years. She can no longer communicate clearly and has to be nappied, cared for and fed. Nevertheless, every email he writes not only has his name as a signature, but also hers.

He wrote to me that his love for her is still growing and getting stronger.

  1. that's a terrible number!
Do you know what really moves me in this respect?
As young parents you are often warned - whether by Christians or non-Christians ... oh, when the baby arrives, you have no more time, only bad nights ..., oh, when it crawls, oh when it walks ... (this is NOT an exaggeration!) but every phase is beautiful and exciting!
    Kind regards

    1. Thank you for your feedback.
@Debbie: I'm interested in exchanging ideas.... love to hear yours. I also don't think it's a question of WHETHER you can do it well with children, but HOW....anything that is supportive and helpful here - brilliant...(maybe it'll become a quadro one day?!
@Sibylle: I think that's brilliant too. As a coach, I see again and again how much strength people lose when they focus on the problems.

  2. Hi Kerstin, the transition to parenthood is a real challenge for both mum and dad. But if you actively shape it and don't just react, it can also be wonderful. I'm currently thinking about developing a few „lessons“ (don't have a better word yet) for young mums to help them deal intensively with their new role. These would address topics such as the influence of one's own mother, values and beautiful family rituals. If you would like to exchange ideas here, just get in touch...
Best wishes, are you going on holiday soon? Then have a good rest!
