Cultural experience - hairdressing in Flanders
Okay. I took a chance. I went to a hairdresser who only spoke French and Flemish. My Flemish is limited to a few sentences. I haven't used my French since I was at school - and it wasn't particularly good even before that. Nevertheless. It was worth a try.
And it worked surprisingly well. The hairdresser had upper arms like a bodybuilder - which was marvellous when shampooing .... Pure and intense head massage. Later, when he cut my hair, I wondered if he got his muscles from the gym or from gesticulating: He spent about 50% of the time not cutting my hair, but explaining something to me with both hands: How I should put my hair up, how I should colour it, what the advantage of which cut was, what the difference was between the shops in Brussels (only expensive or super cheap) and Antwerp (mid-price segment also available)...and so on...and so on....
In the end, it took him a whole hour to get the ends of my hair back in shape...and he was well paid for it...I had only understood „snit“ (haircut) on the price tag...I hadn't realised that washing and blow-drying cost more than the same amount...now I'm a little poorer and one cultural experience richer....
always nice to have such intercultural experiences :-))
Have a great time!
