Learning to trust: loved first
A statement made by Joshua Lupbema, one of our board members at Gemeinsam für Berlin, at the Transforum What he said really moved me. In essence, he said the following:
Peter boasted about how much he Jesus loves. Yet when it came down to it, he betrayed him.
Johannes has been boasting about how much Jesus loved him. John remained at Jesus’ side until his death on the cross.
You can’t build a theology out of that. But what I’ve come to realise is that it isn’t our great love for Jesus – or even our weak love for him – that sustains us… but the knowledge of his deep love for us.
It is fitting that the Reflection Booklet: God’s Fatherly Love, which puts God’s loving promises into personal terms, is now in its fourth edition. I can highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to be touched more deeply by God’s love.
And I am happy and grateful that, through this devotional booklet, we can play a small part in helping people to be touched by God’s love.
