Discovering life - questions to God
Was I alive today?
Yes!
I’d been praying that God would send me an elderly person who had time on their hands, was good with their hands and would be happy to help me. God must have thought, „If that’s all it takes.“ And He sent me a very nice elderly gentleman who has a lot of farming experience, likes boats and has time to spare. He’s already helped me out a few times and will probably continue to be on board.
On Thursday evening, on the drive back in the car (with heated seats – brilliant for a sore back), he told me and another woman who’d helped out on board how he’d met and fallen in love with his second wife (he was a widower). It was simply lovely to hear such a love story from a man’s own lips.
What new things have I discovered about life?
That people have very different questions about life and about God. After we got off the bus, the other woman said, „Sometimes I wonder why God gives some people a spouse twice, and others, like us, not even once.“ I was surprised. The question hadn’t even crossed my mind.
The next morning, I made a fruit salad. Once again, my hands were dripping with mango juice. I just can’t seem to manage to cut up mangoes „properly“. I wondered: why on earth did God create something as delicious as mangoes in such impractical packaging?.
In short: the questions that people ask themselves and God are clearly different.
What new things have I discovered about myself?
Envy of happy couples is clearly no longer an issue for me. On the one hand, because I know that most happiness comes with a fair bit of hard work. But perhaps also because, during a phase when I often struggled with envy towards happy couples, I got into the habit of blessing them (just like the couple in the photo, whom I don’t know). Just saying a quick prayer that God may strengthen, sustain and bless them and their relationship. Hopefully that does them some good – it certainly does me.
Hello dear Kerstin,
How’s the rust removal coming along now?
Have you managed to save up the money yet?
Best wishes and God’s abundant blessings,
Edelgard
Yes… now EVERYTHING’s in place! I’m soooo grateful! We’ve already removed the rust – now we’re in the process of painting….
Great, I'm really pleased about that :-)
