Discover life - Lady time
Was I alive today?
Yes!
On the first day of the month, I always set aside a day for reflection, planning and prayer. This is very important to me as an anchor in my life. I often travel to Potsdam for this, spending my time in cafés and in the Sanssouci Park.
I was absolutely knackered this morning. A root canal treatment, 10 days of poor sleep due to lumbago, two sick colleagues in the team – which means more work for me – a few challenges on the boat… some worries about friends… it had all left me quite exhausted… so much so that I was also quite on edge emotionally.
Suddenly, whilst I was praying, I felt that Jesus was saying to me „Go and buy yourself something to wear today. It’ll do you good!“ A man who understands women! I’m definitely not one of those women who’s always out shopping. I actually find it rather tiring. But I love it when I find an item of clothing that really suits me. Apart from the clothes I won with a voucher, I haven’t bought any clothes for ages – the money I have is currently going towards the boat. I really need it for that.
Today – with this morning’s inspiration still in the back of my mind – I spotted a dress in a shop as I was walking past that looked as if it had been made just for me. I went in and tried it on. I was right – it was exactly my style – as if it had been made just for me! And it was a bargain. 16 euros! What puzzled me was a slit running across the dress. It was only when the shop assistant explained that it was a nursing dress that I realised I’d walked into a second-hand shop specialising in maternity and nursing wear. The slit is designed to give hungry babies quick access to the milk supply. The shop assistant had a sewing machine on the table and had just threaded it with the right colour thread… so I asked her to close up the nursing slit…(I don’t need that just yet….)… and now I have a perfect dress that I feel absolutely comfortable in. That really does me good. Jesus was right! That does me good!
What new things have I discovered about life?
Design makes you happy and creative. In the shop, a woman was working on a lampshade. I was admiring her – and then she started to tell her story. „I love this lamp because it has a very special story behind it. My grandparents lived in the former GDR, and my grandmother saw this lamp in a magazine and thought it was beautiful. (Which isn’t to say you could actually find one anywhere under ‘real existing socialism’…). One day, she and my grandfather went to buy a carpet for their flat. And in the shop’s entrance hall stood the Lamp. They bought it.
Well, they didn’t have enough money left for the whole carpet. So they thought about which corners of the flat could manage without a carpet. And that’s how it came to be that they didn’t have a carpet under the built-in wardrobe or under the armchairs… but they did have the lamp!
What new things have I discovered about myself?
Over the last few years, I’ve actually developed quite a good sense of what’s good for me. I didn’t really notice this before, but I’ve been consciously practising it in recent years. And whether you believe that Jesus spoke directly to me (which I assume is the case – after all, we’re friends) or that I simply sensed for myself what would do me good – the thought struck a chord with me. And it did me good.
I could do with a good night’s sleep now. Hopefully a long, uninterrupted and deep sleep.

Dear Kerstin,
This is a „glorious“ story, because glory has been revealed to you! Quite directly, as you gaze upon the marvellous dress that, in the truest sense of the word, „clothes“ you and perfectly highlights your own beauty. And in a figurative sense, because „glory“ – as Manfred Lanz has so perfectly elaborated in biblical terms – also means that you are the beloved daughter of the Most High! Did Jesus speak to you?? Claro, as they’d say in Spanish :-)) – there’s no question about it in my mind! He really is a man who understands women, a lover and a bringer of wonders!
All the best to you, Karin
Thank you for sharing in my joy! I too think it was Jesus who was speaking there… but I didn’t want to impose my interpretation on those readers for whom the experience of hearing God speak directly is rather unfamiliar; instead, I wanted to leave them some room for their own interpretation.
That dress looks absolutely brilliant on you!! And your story is really encouraging too! Thanks for sharing. I always really enjoy reading your posts!

Thanks for the compliment. I think it’s absolutely lovely too!
A lovely experience. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Kerstin, I think the dress is lovely too. And it’s lovely how you came to have it. But I wish you all the best for your health as well.
Thank you, Melitta, for your kind words and best wishes!
