Small businessman

Yesterday, on my way to an appointment, I walked past some children who were selling old toys on the pavement. When I passed them again on my way back, they asked me to stop.
As I don’t really have much of a need for little flashing plastic robot figures, I didn’t buy any from them, but I did give them the loose change I had in my purse instead.
A boy of about seven said, „You’re so kind – everyone else just walked straight past and didn’t give us anything.“ And then, „Please tell everyone that we’re here.“
I couldn’t help but smile. In business, this is known as referral marketing. He clearly had a good grasp of the basics. Referral marketing is even more effective when you don’t do it indiscriminately (recommend us to everyone), but make it more specific: „Recommend us to people who might be interested in what we have to offer.“ But from his perspective, that probably meant everyone.
