Summer project: Remove rust from decks - defeat rust!

2014-05-16 17.36.03The test run was successful. One man used his stay and the professional support on board to sort out his thoughts and perspectives - and was happy about the time and support he was given.

At the same time, we are busy with our summer project - in addition to installing doors and further interior work: Remove rust from decks!

The three decks are to be derusted by the end of September. The weather must be dry for rust removal. Further damage to the structure is to be expected if we don't defeat the rust before winter. The steel is already deeply rusted in some places. We have already finished derusting and painting the railings (see photo), but now it's time to tackle the floors of the three decks, some of which are badly rusted, centimetre by centimetre:

  • - Minideck rear: 10 square metres
  • - Large deck: 30 square metres
  • - Front deck: 20 square metres

That is A lot of work - approx. 2 hours per square metre for derusting, filling, 3 x painting. But also a lot of money. Approx. 50 euros per square metre for rust removal tools, electricity, filler and paint. 2014-07-12 17.20.57

So:

  • Rear minideck: 500 euros
  • Large deck: 1500 Euro
  • Front deck: 1000 Euro

I have worked with Startnext has started a fundraising project for it. There you can find detailed information about the project and the coolest rust removal video you can imagine! Startnext works in such a way that you first need a few fans - in my case 25 - who think the project is good. So please go to the page and become a fan.

Then you can collect donations. The cool thing for the donors is that they receive thank-you gifts. Some of them are cool: Original rust from the ship or a soundtrack from rust removal. But also really valuable: signed books, a party with grilled sausages, seminar vouchers, coaching, a stay on board...just take a look for yourself at Startnext to.

My request: Join in! So that the ship can soon shine in new splendour! Already two euros help to remove a square centimetre of rust and preserve the area permanently!

What you can do:

  • Become a fan - please do!
  • Donate something. Whether it's a few euros or many. Everything helps!
  • Thank you for your thank you.
  • And for heroes (see Video) of course: Come on board with us and beat the rust!

Incidentally, the donation will only be activated when the total sum of 2500 euros has been collected. But we can manage that, can't we? There is a lot to do, let's get on with it!

    1. Thank you! The problem is that there is paint over the rust, in several layers, and you can't get at it with gel. With approx. 1000 square metres of surface to be derusted, it would also cost a lot of money.
